Jan. 10 The Pillowman at DCTC

Tomorrow night is the first free performance of 2007 being offered by the Denver Center Theatre Company. These free performances must be a given production's final dress rehearsal, as they are always scheduled for the night before the first preview performance. It's a great way for the cast and crew to work out a few more kinks before the paying audiences (and critics) start showing up, so while a free performance may not be quite as tight or insightful as it will be later in its run, it's a win-win for everyone involved. I can't make it to tomorrow's performance due to work constraints, as the box office opens at 4:30 and the line starts forming early.

The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh Jan 10, 2007 · 6:30pm · Ricketson Theatre

A writer is questioned about the chilling similarities between the crimes in his stories and a series of gruesome real-life murders. The New York Times called Martin McDonagh’s award-winning new work “the season’s most exciting and original new play.” Both viciously funny and disturbingly gruesome, The Pillowman takes on some of today’s most potent issues – from censorship and the power of the state to freedom of speech and the rights of the individual.
